The Tubac Country Inn is just steps from history. 250 years ago the Spanish established a presidio, or fort, in Tubac to protect its settlers. In 1752, the commander of the presidio, Juan Bautista de Anza, was ordered to open a new route to California. His journey from Tubac to San Francisco is immortalized as the de Anza Trail, part of which travels along the Santa Cruz River from Tubac to the mission at Tumacacori.
